How do I assess what condition my car is in?

• Updated

Before you sell or part exchange your car, we’ll ask you a few questions about the condition of your car in our valuation calculator. This is so we can make sure you get a fair and transparent valuation that’s guaranteed for 7 days.

We’ll ask about the number of:

  • Surface level dents, chips or scratches (including those that go through the paint)

  • Scuffs or scrapes on alloys

  • Chips or cracks in the windscreen and back window

  • Scuffs on the inside of your car

  • Tears or burns on the carpets or seats149

Based on your answers, your car will be automatically graded into one of four categories:

  • Like new

  • Good

  • Average

  • Poor

On the day, we’ll inspect the car against the information you’ve given us and check your car’s documents, like the V5C logbook, service history (if any) and a photo ID.

We may have to revalue if the description you’ve given us doesn’t match the condition of your car. If this happens, we’ll give you a new valuation offer and continue with your handover if you accept. If you need time to think about it, we’ll send you an email with our updated offer that’s valid for 7 days.

Please see our sell car terms and conditions for further information.
