If your car is stolen or written off, GAP Insurance covers either the difference between the current market value of your car and the original purchase price, or the amount you still owe on your finance agreement. Whichever is the higher amount.
For example, if you bought your car outright:
Your Cazoo car was £20,000 when you purchased it.
It gets written off two years later and is now worth £12,000.
Your car insurance will only cover its current market value of £12,000.
GAP Insurance will cover the £8,000 difference.
For example, if your current finance settlement amount is £12,500:
Your car insurance will cover the car’s current market value of £10,000.
GAP Insurance will cover the remaining £2,500.
GAP insurance covers either the difference between the amount your car insurance pays out and the original purchase price of your car, or the amount you still owe on your finance agreement.
Whichever is the higher amount is what you'll be paid.

You won’t be able to claim on GAP Insurance if:
Your car insurer has not declared your car a total loss.
You’ve modified the car in any way.
Your car is a total loss caused by a competitive event, such as racing.
You don’t have a comprehensive car insurance policy.

GAP Insurance covers up to £500 of the car insurance excess if you make a claim. If your car insurance excess is more than £500, you’ll need to pay the difference.
You can buy GAP Insurance using the email link we'll send you two days after purchasing your Cazoo car.

The GAP insurance starts from the date you receive your Cazoo car and you have up to 60 days to purchase, so there’s plenty of time to decide.
We'll also email you more information so you have everything you need to make up your mind.
Due to regulations around the sale of GAP insurance, you’re unable to purchase GAP insurance on the same day you buy your car. This is to make sure you have plenty of time to decide before you purchase.
The day after you’ve purchased a Cazoo car you’ll be emailed information about GAP Insurance. We’ll then email you a link to a payment portal the following day. This is where you can purchase GAP Insurance, if you’d like to.
The GAP Insurance available to purchase is a combined return to invoice (RTI) GAP insurance, provided by Assurant. It covers the difference between your car’s current market value at the time it’s stolen or written off and the amount you originally paid for it.
This means you could get another car of a similar value. If your car is on finance, you’d also be covered for any outstanding finance you have left to pay on it. GAP Insurance covers you for the higher of these two amounts.
Yes, you can.
We offer finance agreements for 24 to 60 months. Whether your finance agreement is shorter or longer than your GAP insurance cover, the finance settlement part of your policy is active for the length of your finance agreement, up to 60 months.
At the moment, you can only make a one-off, upfront payment to purchase GAP Insurance.
Yes, you need comprehensive car insurance to purchase GAP insurance.
GAP Insurance is an additional cover for your car that runs alongside your car insurance. It will only cover you if your car is stolen or written off and you make a claim with your car insurer. If your claim is accepted, they’ll then pay you a settlement amount based on the market value of the car at the time.
