What is the BMW 1 Series M Sport Shadow Edition?
The BMW 1 Series M Sport Shadow Edition is a limited-edition trim level of the 1 Series, which is BMW’s mid-size hatchback. It was sold new between July 2017 and June 2019 and, as the name suggests, it adds dark styling elements to the existing M Sport trim for a stealthier look. As with the standard M Sport model, it has a sportier look and feel than the base 1 Series, and comes well-equipped with many features as standard.
What is the BMW 1 Series?
The BMW 1 Series is a mid-size hatchback – and a rival for cars such as the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and the Audi A3. The latest version was introduced in 2019, but we’re focusing here on a version of the previous model, which was sold new from 2011 to 2019.
Although both versions have much in common, they offer different driving experiences – the older 1 Series is rear-wheel drive while the newer is front-wheel drive – and different levels of practicality. This version of the 1 Series was available as a five-door hatchback or as a three-door model.
Where does the BMW 1 Series M Sport Shadow Edition sit in the range?
The Shadow Edition is an enhanced version of the M Sport trim, which is the top-spec ‘standard’ 1 Series before you get to the performance-focused M140i model. The Shadow Edition therefore sits above the SE, Sport and M Sport models but below the M140i.
How is the BMW 1 Series M Sport Shadow Edition different from the rest of the 1 Series range?
The BMW 1 Series M Sport Shadow Edition comes very well-equipped compared with other versions of the 1 Series. It features black 18-inch alloy wheels and darkened rear lights, with dark chrome exhaust pipes and a black grille, all adding to the car’s look. Other features include cruise control, bright LED headlights with a darkened surround and a Harman Kardon sound system.
