Used BMW 1 Series M Sport cars

M Sport is the sporty-looking trim available for BMW’s 1 Series range of mid-size cars. It’s distinguished from other 1 Series models by larger wheels, different bumpers and a rear spoiler. Inside, you get sports front seats that give you extra side support, a different steering wheel design, aluminium trim and stainless steel pedals. These styling details give the M Sport a look similar to the high-performance M135i/M140i models, but without their higher performance or higher prices. 

The 1 Series is the smallest car BMW makes. It’s a mid-size hatchback that’s about the same size as the Ford Focus or the Volkswagen Golf. It was first released in 2004 and has been available as a three- or five-door hatchback, a two-door coupe and an open-top convertible. Hugely popular over the years, it occasionally ranks among the UK’s top 10 best-selling cars. The current, third-generation 1 Series has been sold new in the UK since 2019, as a five-door hatchback only.

The letter ‘M’ is used for BMW’s sporty models and is inspired by the success of its in-house racing team, BMW Motorsport. For many years the brand’s high-performance models have been heavily modified versions of its standard cars – the M3 (based on the 3 Series), the M5 (based on the 5 Series) and so on. The M Sport model was introduced in the early 2000s for buyers who like the styling of the high-performance cars but don’t want such a fast car, or the high running costs that go with them.

The trim levels available for the 1 Series have been renamed and reordered several times over the years, but M Sport has always been at or near the top of the range. There are four models to choose from in the latest 1 Series range – SE, Sport, M Sport and the high-performance M135i.

The main difference between the M Sport and other 1 Series models is its sporty styling. Standard features typically match those of the SE and/or Sport model, as is the case in the latest 1 Series.
