The Peugeot 2008 is a compact five-door SUV that’s a rival for cars such as the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur. The previous model (sold new between 2013 and 2019) has a curvier, softer-edged design than the latest model, which was launched in 2019 and features a bold, futuristic look.

Both the previous and current 2008 models are good to drive, giving you a smooth ride over most roads. The engines are quiet and responsive and long-distance comfort is excellent for such a small car. A high driving position gives you a good view out and many versions come with parking sensors. The latest model is available as a pure-electric model called the e-2008 – it’s quick, quiet and is one of the best small electric cars.

Both models have five seats and offer lots of headroom and legroom in the front seats. There’s enough space for two adults in the back seats although some rivals offer more. The latest car has an impressively large boot, with space for three medium suitcases; the older car’s is smaller but still very practical. Both models feel well made, but the latest has more wow factor thanks to its very futuristic design. All versions have a touchscreen infotainment system and support for Apple CarPlay.

Running costs and reliability of the Peugeot 2008

Ownership costs for the Peugeot 2008 are low thanks to its very efficient petrol and diesel engines; official average fuel economy for the latest model is about 50mpg for petrol models and 65mpg for diesel versions. The e-2008 gives you the low running costs you expect of any pure electric car. Peugeot’s newer cars have a good reputation for reliability and the brand achieved first place in the latest J.D. Power UK Vehicle Dependability Study. The previous 2008 scored a maximum five-star rating when tested by safety organisation Euro NCAP when tested in 2013. The latest model scored four in standard form and five with the optional safety pack fitted.

The Peugeot 2008 is slightly longer and taller than the Peugeot 208 hatchback but smaller than the Peugeot 3008 SUV. It’s a similar size to the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur. Both the previous and current models are stylish, good to drive and cost-effective but the latest model’s high-tech interior and the choice of pure electric power give it a real edge over many rivals.
